The widespread use of germline sequencing to foretell disease also raises a large set of ethical questions that must be addressed in the years forward, particularly those regarding children and members of the family of people undergoing sequence analysis. Major analytical advances have made it attainable to investigate and interpret complex datasets beyond what was previously attainable. And dropping prices have made it attainable to generate information at a scale that was by no means before conceivable. We may even witness an explosion of useful genomic research involving, for instance, the genome-wide interrogation of gene dependencies throughout as many as 1000 cancer cell lines. The implication of this is that researchers will more and more need sturdy quantitative analytical abilities to be successful in fashionable biomedical analysis. Last, as costs drop and our data base increases, so too will diagnostic alternatives increase.
