It originates from the neural crest cells of the sympathetic nervous system and will arise from a number of extensively separated anatomical sites alongside the craniospinal axis. Sites of major tumor include cervical, cervicothoracic, thoracic, thoracoabdominal, stomach, and pelvis. It is the most common intra-abdominal strong tumor in childhood accounting for 8­10% of all pediatric cancers.
